Hello, my name is Julieanna Danquah (you can call me Julie).
I am a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My journey into counselling began with a deep curiosity about what drives us as individuals. Through my own experience with counselling, I found it incredibly transformative, it helped me build confidence and resilience, gave me a stronger sense of self-worth, and inspired me to support others on their paths to growth.
Life can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming, leaving us feeling distressed, anxious, or hopeless. If this is you, then talking and sharing the weight of your concerns can help you process, accept, and learn to cope with those challenges. I offer a warm, safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. I am empathetic to your individual experience and understand how culture, religion, and gender influence your lived experiences.
I recognise that in some cultures, communities, and religious groups, counselling is often seen as unnecessary or taboo. I take a culturally sensitive approach, ensuring that people from all backgrounds feel understood and supported. I am passionate about making counselling approachable and accessible, breaking down barriers to seeking help, and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and included.
How I work
As an Integrative Counsellor, I draw from a variety of theoretical models to tailor my approach to your needs.
I see the therapeutic relationship as essential to the counselling process. Building a foundation of trust, understanding, and mutual respect allows us to create a space where you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings. I am committed to fostering a genuine connection, as I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is key to the work.
While my core approaches are Person-Centred and Psychodynamic, I work collaboratively to incorporate other methods as needed to support your journey.
Person-Centred Therapy
This approach emphasises creating a safe and supportive environment where you feel truly heard and understood. It focuses on your capacity for self-awareness and growth, with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard as the foundation of our work together.
Psychodynamic Therapy
This approach delves into how unconscious processes and past experiences, especially from childhood, shape your present behaviours and emotions. By exploring these influences, we can uncover patterns and unresolved conflicts, fostering deeper self-awareness and healing.
My experience
I have experience working in NHS IAPT talking therapies and Low-Cost Counselling supporting clients facing a wide range of challenges, including:
